BISHOPS' HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION BURSARY AWARD
In recognition of the on-going support received from its members, friends and the
community at large, the Toronto Chapter has created two bursaries to be awarded to
students of Guyanese parentage residing in Canada who are starting post-secondary
education. The inaugural bursaries were awarded in September 1997.
ELIGIBILITY FOR BURSARY
Bursary No. 1: is to be awarded to a student who is the child, grandchild or legal ward
of a BHS alumnus who is in good standing in the Association.
Bursary No. 2: is to be awarded to a student of Guyanese parentage who must be
nominated by an alumnus in good standing, or by a ‘friend of BHS’.
CRITERIA FOR AWARD
1. Completed Application Form.
2. Admission and acceptance to a post-secondary institution. Include acceptance letter.
3. Achievement of academic excellence in a programme of studies in secondary school.
Include final high school transcript.
4. Evidence of leadership role in his/her high school and evidence as a volunteer in
the wider community. Include a reference letter from school and/or a reference letter
from a community organization.
5. Submit in writing (no more than 200 words), the reasons why this bursary is
important to you.
VALUE OF BURSARY
Each bursary will be for the sum of $1000.00 to be used for the acquisition of education
materials (or incidental fees) in support of the programme of studies selected by
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION
Applications must be postmarked no later than July 31 of the year of application.
